We have completed another successful roof reconstruction – this time on an exceptionally historic house in Liberec. The implementation was not only technically interesting, but also sensitive in terms of preserving the value of the original building.
History of a house over 300 years old
The house was built when the area was inhabited by Germans. According to the owner, the last roof reconstruction took place approximately 150 years ago. At that time, traditional small-format ceramic Bobrovka tiles were laid on the roof, the weight of which reached up to 80 kg/m².
Even though its condition has naturally deteriorated after 150 years, it is necessary to appreciate its incredible durability – today, few modern materials can boast such durability.
Condition of the roof and preparation for the new system
The wooden structures were surprisingly in very good condition and required only minor repairs.
After dismantling the old tiles, our experts:
- revised and repaired the original roof truss,
- leveled the roof planes,
- installed a high-quality roof waterproofing membrane,
- mounted counter-battens and battens,
- prepared the structure for the new metal roofing.
New roofing – Gotic Mat 0.5 mm in RAL 7016
As the final roofing, we used the modern Gotic Mat sheet metal system with a thickness of 0.5 mm in the popular anthracite color (RAL 7016).
The implementation also included complete plumbing accessories, sheet metal and all accessories so that the traditional appearance of the building was preserved, but modern requirements for low weight and long service life were met.
Significant reduction in roof weight – up to 15 tons
By replacing heavy ceramic roofing with light steel roofing, we reduced the load:
- by approximately 60 kg/m²,
- which is approximately 15 tons for the entire roof!
This is a major benefit, especially for older roof trusses, which thus gain significantly higher durability and safety.
