Roof Renovation in Tři Studně: New Standing Seam Metal Roofing and On-Site Panel Production
The complete renovation of a family house roof in Tři Studně demonstrates how an old, leaking roof can be transformed into a modern, functional, and aesthetically attractive solution. Thanks to our own mobile roll-forming equipment, we were also able to manufacture standing seam panels up to 8 metres long directly on-site.
1. Original Roof and Reasons for Renovation
The family house in Tři Studně had an approximately 20-year-old roof covered with bitumen shingles. Over time, the original roofing material gradually lost its appearance, while recurring water leaks became the main problem.
According to the homeowner, leakage problems appeared almost immediately after the original installation. One possible cause may have been shortcomings in the initial installation process.
After assessing the situation, we recommended completely removing the old roofing material and replacing it with a modern standing seam metal roof.
2. New Standing Seam Roof in Dark Green
For the new roof, the customer selected standing seam metal roofing in an elegant dark green shade, RAL 6020.
Technical specifications of the new roofing:
• Roofing type: Traditional standing seam metal roofing
• Colour: RAL 6020 – dark green
• Surface finish: Matt
• Metal thickness: 0.5 mm
• Panel production: Directly on-site
Standing seam roofing is a modern solution offering long service life, low weight, and a timeless appearance. When properly designed and professionally installed, it provides excellent protection against adverse weather conditions.
3. Complete Removal and Substrate Preparation
The renovation began with the removal of the original bitumen shingles. We then inspected the condition of the existing solid wooden roof decking and replaced damaged boards.
Special attention was paid to proper substrate preparation. Beneath the new standing seam roofing, we installed a specialised roofing membrane manufactured by Bauder, designed for use in suitable metal roofing systems.
A properly designed underlay helps protect the roof structure against moisture and contributes to the long-term performance of the roofing system.
The project also included the complete replacement of the gutter system and the installation of all necessary sheet metal flashings, trims, and connection details.
4. Manufacturing Standing Seam Panels Directly On-Site
The most interesting technical aspect of the entire project was the production of standing seam panels directly on-site using our own mobile roll-forming machine.
This technology allowed us to manufacture metal roofing panels up to 8 metres long without the need to transport them from a production facility.
As a result, we were able to create a specific transition between two roof planes using a single continuous panel, without any additional transverse joint.
This solution provided several important advantages:
• Fewer transverse joints and potentially vulnerable areas
• Improved conditions for long-term watertightness when correctly installed
• A clean and aesthetically appealing roof appearance
• The ability to adapt panel lengths to the actual roof dimensions
• Greater flexibility in manufacturing and installation directly at the construction site
Producing long roofing panels requires not only suitable equipment but also experience in the correct design and installation of standing seam roofing details.
5. How Much Did the Complete Roof Renovation Cost?
The total cost of this project was CZK 380,000, including all materials and installation work.
The price included:
• Removal of the original bitumen roofing
• Inspection and local repairs of the wooden roof decking
• Supply and installation of a specialised Bauder roofing membrane
• Manufacturing and installation of the new standing seam metal roofing
• Complete replacement of the gutter system
• Manufacturing and installation of all necessary sheet metal flashings and roofing details
The stated price reflects the specific scope of this project.
The cost of a similar renovation always depends on the roof size and complexity, the condition of the underlying structure, the selected materials, and the difficulty of installation.
6. The Result: A Modern Roof with Minimal Joints
The original roof, approximately 20 years old and affected by leakage problems, was replaced with a new standing seam metal roof in a matt dark green finish.
The use of a specialised Bauder membrane, proper substrate preparation, and the production of long roofing panels directly on-site enabled us to deliver a technically well-designed roof with a minimal number of unnecessary joints.
