Standing Seam Cladding on Facades: A Modern and Durable Solution
Standing seam metal is no longer used exclusively for roofing. In modern architecture, it is increasingly used as metal facade cladding, creating an elegant, durable and virtually maintenance-free exterior. Another major advantage is the possibility of visually connecting the roof and facade using the same material, creating a clean and unified appearance for the entire building.
One example is our completed project in Třebíč, Czech Republic, where we used traditional standing seam technology for the facade cladding.
The panels were not manufactured in advance at a production facility. Using our own mobile standing seam profiling machine, we produced the panels directly on site according to the actual dimensions of individual sections of the facade.
For this project, we used premium Swedish SSAB GreenCoat Pural BT Matt steel with a thickness of 0.5 mm in RAL 7016.

Why use standing seam metal on a facade?
One of the greatest advantages of a standing seam facade is the combination of excellent technical properties and a distinctive architectural appearance.
The regular vertical lines created by the standing seams visually enhance the height of the building and create a clean, minimalist appearance. Standing seam metal cladding is therefore an excellent solution for modern family homes, commercial buildings, renovation projects and buildings where architects want to create a seamless visual connection between the roof and facade.
The main advantages of standing seam facade cladding include long service life, high resistance to weather conditions, excellent protection of the building structure against rain and snow, minimal visible fasteners, a modern and timeless appearance, low maintenance requirements and low weight.
Another important advantage is the possibility of manufacturing standing seam panels precisely to the required dimensions and using the same material for both the roof and facade.

Traditional standing seam on facades
For this project in Třebíč, we used a traditional standing seam system.
Unlike standard Click panels, individual metal sheets are mechanically joined and closed by seaming. The result is a series of characteristic narrow raised seams and a clean surface without conventional visible screws.
This detail gives a standing seam facade its distinctive and elegant appearance.
Traditional standing seam technology also provides considerable flexibility during installation. Individual metal strips can be adapted to the specific geometry of the building, making it possible to solve more complicated architectural and sheet metal details.

Production of standing seam panels directly on site
One of the major advantages of our technology is the possibility of manufacturing standing seam panels directly at the construction site.
For our project in Třebíč, we used our own mobile standing seam profiling machine. Metal supplied in coils can therefore be profiled directly on site.
This production method offers several important advantages.
First of all, individual panels can be manufactured according to the actual measurements of the building. We do not have to rely exclusively on dimensions provided in the project documentation and can adapt the panels to the actual condition and geometry of the structure.
This method also eliminates some of the limitations associated with transporting very long finished panels. On long roof or facade surfaces, panels can be produced in long continuous lengths directly at the construction site, helping to minimise the number of transverse joints.
The result is a cleaner appearance, simpler logistics and more accurate adaptation of the material to the individual project.
Installation of a standing seam facade requires precision
Standing seam metal is a high-quality facade material, but the final result depends heavily on correct preparation of the supporting structure and professional installation of all details.

The supporting surface must be precise and level.
Even relatively small irregularities can become visible when long metal panels are installed.
Particular attention must be paid to the correct fastening of individual panels, thermal expansion of the metal, building corners, connections around windows and doors, window sills and reveals, upper and lower facade terminations, moisture drainage, ventilation and precise execution of standing seam joints.
Metal naturally expands and contracts as temperatures change. The supporting structure and fastening system must therefore allow for the natural thermal movement of the material.
Correct execution of these details determines how the standing seam facade will perform and look not only immediately after completion, but also many years later.
Ventilated facade and protection of the building structure
Standing seam metal cladding is particularly well suited to ventilated facade systems.
A ventilation cavity can be created between the metal cladding and the other layers of the building envelope. A correctly designed system helps remove moisture while protecting the thermal insulation and load-bearing structure against direct exposure to weather conditions.

The metal cladding therefore forms the outer protective layer of the entire facade system.
SSAB GreenCoat Pural BT Matt 0.5 mm
For this project, we selected SSAB GreenCoat Pural BT Matt steel with a thickness of 0.5 mm in RAL 7016.
It is a premium Swedish coated steel designed for long-term use in demanding outdoor conditions. The matt surface provides an elegant appearance, reduces strong reflections and fits particularly well with contemporary architecture.
The material provides high resistance to corrosion, UV radiation and weather conditions.
The current price of SSAB GreenCoat Pural BT Matt 0.5 mm on Roofer.cz is CZK 356/m² including VAT. The regular price is CZK 475/m², meaning the material is currently available with a 25% discount.
The price is valid at the time of publication and may change in the future depending on the current price list and promotional offers.

Long service life and minimal maintenance
One of the main reasons why standing seam metal is used not only for roofs but increasingly for facades is its long service life.
High-quality steel combined with a modern protective coating helps protect the material against corrosion, UV radiation and everyday exposure to weather conditions.
A 30-year warranty is currently stated for the SSAB GreenCoat Pural BT Matt material offered by Roofer.cz.
With a correctly designed facade system, professional installation and proper execution of all sheet metal details, standing seam cladding provides a durable facade with minimal maintenance requirements.
Standing seam facade as an architectural feature
One of the greatest advantages of standing seam cladding is its appearance.
