Under-roof materials
High humidity levels, wind and precipitation gradually destroy the roof covering and the roof frame. Moisture penetrates through the joints of the roof modules and the fixing holes into the roof structure. Damp insulation significantly impairs the building's heat retention, and moisture ingress on the supporting structures eventually causes rotting and collapse of the flooring. And if moisture gets under the ceiling sheathing, dampness and mould (and the accompanying odours) cannot be avoided.
To keep the roof structure in good condition and maintain the microclimate, a roofing film is installed. Its use is possible during the construction or reconstruction of the roof of almost any type of building: residential, commercial, industrial, public, agricultural. This film is relevant for pitched roofs, as well as flat and combined roofs.
Types of roofing film for roofs
There are several types of roofing film, each of which has its own characteristics and features, as well as a corresponding purpose.
- Waterproofing film
It is designed to protect the roofing cake from moisture that can penetrate from the outside. There are two main options on the market: polyethylene and polypropylene. The former provide basic protection against water, are cheaper and simpler; the latter have better water-repellent properties, and are more durable and resistant to mechanical damage.
- Vapour barrier film
Prevents the penetration of water vapour from the interior into the thermal insulation layer, which, in turn, prevents the loss of thermal insulation properties and condensation. There are several types of such products. The most affordable ones are made of polyethylene and polypropylene. Despite the price, they reliably protect the insulation layer from moisture. Aluminium versions are even more reliable. They are often used in combination with warm roofs.
- Diffusion membranes
They perform two main tasks: protecting against moisture from the outside and removing water vapour from the insulation. They can be one- and three-layer. The first ones are quite simple in design; they are used for small buildings with a low load on the roof. Three-layer membranes are more complex in structure, which provides high water vapour transmission and reliable protection against moisture. They are often chosen for complex roofs, large commercial or industrial buildings (where very high strength values are required) and on mansard roofs.
- Superdiffusion membranes
They have an even higher water vapour permeability and are therefore used in buildings with high ventilation requirements. The "trick" of superdiffusion membranes is an anti-condensation coating that prevents condensation on the inside of the film. This is especially important in cold seasons.
Roofing film on the Roofer website - types
The assortment includes the most popular products on the Czech market, high-quality and reliable. You can choose what you need from this list:
- Diffusion membrane
A good solution for pitched roofs. Depending on the type of product, it can be applied to formwork, thermal insulation or rafters. This solution provides waterproofing, vapour permeability and mould protection at the same time, which creates an optimal microclimate inside the building.
- Vapour barrier aluminium foil
This roofing foil has a metallised layer that reflects heat (which minimises heat loss). It also serves as a barrier against water vapour and wind. It is supplied in rolls, the price is per square metre.
- Vapour barrier film
Its task is to protect against water and moisture under thermal insulation. It can be used not only to create a vapour barrier for the roof, but also for the floor. It is made of 100% polyethylene.
- Roof waterproofing film
Protects the roof structure from moisture and condensation. The material is polyethylene or polypropylene. Despite its low price, this roof waterproofing film is tear-resistant, can withstand large temperature fluctuations and has a high level of water resistance.
It is installed under the roofing material and insulation. It can also be used for insulation on walls and facades.
- Roofing membrane
Made of high quality polymers to protect against any external influences (such as water, wind, UV radiation). The one-piece construction ensures the reliability of the roofing system for many years. It is made in the form of rolls, which greatly simplifies the installation process
